Goldratt was actively involved in many controversies such as Cost Accounting v Throughput Accounting  and culminated in the publication of A Town Without Walls. Most of Critical Chain feels like a presentation or a lecture, especially the section that is the characters attending the significant lecture that coincides with the book’s title.
More suited for project management – and maybe not the best in the field at that. The reader then follows the characters through their journey of defining the problem and learning new ways to look at the problem along with demonstrations of how the conventional views of the problem unexpectedly lead to solutions with less than desirable results.
The story line is different from what I remember. Several of my engineering co-workers recommended Goldratt to me so I could understand their job better. It becomes evident that libfo overweigh the importance of paying subcontractors the lowest possible price, and they underweigh the importance of short lead-times. The main thesis for this book in my opinion is that Project management is a blend of both Art and Science, that it doesn’t have to be one or the other.
I think the phoenix project probably does this better but it’s still good. It’s a story of a business professor learning about project management as he teaches–and a good story.
