While I did see a few faint glimmers of the writing style from Lord of Scoundrelsneither book, and Captives of the Night in particular, lived up to it’s superior standard in my opinion.
Trivia About Captives of the N Si lo se voy directamente al libro 3. Esmond, with a carefully hidden identity that would shock Leila to the core and Leila with her own secrets to keep I really liked the Esmond’s redemption and having a main character that wasn’t European for a change.
Captives of the Night is my favorite romance novel of vhase time, and Kate Reading’s performance of the book makes it ten times better. When the intriguing Comte d’Esmond enters a room, women swoon and men gnash their teeth.
From olretta perspective, it mainly consisted of rather dull conversations, social interactions, and some character introspection. Chase writes some beautiful, emotionally charged scenes and Kate Reading makes them just perfect. What I love most about the book is the hero. Lofetta in a damned fine mystery, and you have a winner of a story. Leila Beaumont’s art and her husband’s wild living brought them into contact with aristocratic society, but she is not titled herself.
Reading is the best as always. Neither Leila, nor Esmond is especially happy to be working together – their relationship is one of intense attraction accompanied by intense resistance. I do hate it when mysterious characters lpretta previous books are suddenly open to explaining themselves in graphic detail, but I do want the protagonists of books to be developed and for the reader to be privy to their insecurities and feelings – and I only felt we acptives three-fourths of the way into Ismal’s head in Captives of the Nightwhich is a shame.

I didn’t expect to like the hero since he was horrible in the first book. Tetapi Esmond yg super tampa Saat suami Leila yg super bajingan ditemukan mendadak tewas dgn sianida, hidup Leila berubah sepenuhnya. Because of his skillful maneuvering she is acquitted but she must hhe a quiet investigation, initiated by government officials.
I’ve spent the last week or so kind of distracted after reading The Children’s Bookby AS Byatt – a huge-ass tome that spent a spectacularly long time making no point at all.
End of the story? While Ismal succeeds at toppling Beaumont’s empire, he finds himself dangerously attracted to the man’s estranged wife, Leila.
Not to mention the fact that the murderer might be after her as well. I did have a little sympathy for her over her first husband’s horrendous behavior, as well as his making fun of her passionate nature. Jul 29, Tasha rated it it was amazing Shelves: What a great way to start the morning. At the beginning, she’s suspected of the chasd, given that her and her husband haven’t gotten along in years and in fact, everybody knows they don’t even sleep together.

Jan 21, Elis Madison rated it it was amazing Shelves: I was simply never able to fully grasp what each of them was attracted to in the other, except that they seemed like two peas in a pod with rather similar personalities, perhaps too similar. But it was still well done because I really didn’t figure out who the true killer was until just about the same time the two main characters did which was nice.
The two of them are required to collaborate The story of Leila Beaumont, unhappily married artist whose husband is murdered and she becomes the main suspect, and Comte D’Esmond, the investigator sent to solve the mystery of his death. Feb 15, rameau rated it liked it Recommended to rameau by: Neither Leila nor Esmond are particularly happy about his involvement in the case, as their relationship, since he orchestrated a meeting in Paris the year before, has been a tug-of-war between attraction and resistance. They quarrel a lot.
Esmond’s got secrets to hide – one in particular dealing with Leila’s own troubled past. His function in her life was primarily as a buffer against the many men interested in pursuing her.
This one is another good one! Anyone looking for a light-hearted and amusing romp, would be much better off checking out Mr.
I caught myself several times thinking ‘it is really good! But not being hanged for her husband’s murder isn’t enough for Leila. So Far Above the First!!!!
First of all, Kate Reading does a fabulous job with the narration of the audiobook. Where are LC’s flawed but likable hero and admirable heroine? Kate Reading is Simply Brilliant! Throughout their regular, late-night sessions, the tug-of-war between them escalates.
Since Esmond played the role of villain in one of Chase’s previous books, I did find it interesting to see him cast cgase a hero 10 years later. Kali ini sang hero adalah Esmond yg sblmnya adalah Ismal, tokoh antagonis di novel The Lion’s Daughter.
